Snowshoeing holiday at the Grossglockner
Gentle, close to nature, and high alpine
Snowshoe adventures in the Hohe Tauern National Park

The snow crystals glitter in the morning sun, the crystal-clear mountain air of the high Alps invigorates the senses, and all around you is the majestic tranquility of Austria's highest mountain peaks – that's a snowshoeing holiday on the Grossglockner, that's "Slow Winter" in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park. You can experience all this now, even if you've never been on a winter holiday in the mountains before.

That's why we've put together a very special holiday package for you: the Almchalet Snowshoe Week, complete with an introductory course, nature excursions with the National Park rangers, and culminating in an exclusive, high-alpine summit tour with your private mountain guide. Plus, a romantic fondue evening in the Almchalet's traditional farmhouse parlor, and free snowshoe rental equipment for the duration of your holiday.
Here you'll find all the details and services included in our Snowshoe Week.

Enjoy the adventure of snowshoeing and the mountain winter in its purest form! Snowshoeing takes you to untouched, rarely trodden paths where you're alone with nature and the landscape of our mountain world. You don't need any special training or athletic ability for snowshoeing. Anyone who can walk can also snowshoe.
You also don't need to buy or rent expensive equipment. As a guest of our alpine chalet, you'll receive complete, professional-quality snowshoeing equipment free of charge for the duration of your stay.

The best way to experience our mountains is on a guided snowshoe excursion with a national park ranger. No one knows our mountains or explains the beauty of nature better than the full-time rangers of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Your dog is welcome to join you, provided it's sufficiently energetic.
Your tours will be accompanied by an experienced ranger or guide who knows the trails and routes intimately. This allows you to enjoy our mountain world safely and without worry, even if you've never ventured into alpine terrain in winter before.

Here in the Grossglockner-Heiligenblut district, you'll find one of the largest populations of ibex in Austria, the kings of our alpine wildlife. They are particularly easy to observe in winter, as the animals prefer the sunny southern slopes during the day, basking in the winter sun. Your national park ranger knows the best spots and will guide you there. This is only possible on snowshoes. These are the kinds of experiences that make a winter holiday truly special!

The crowning highlight of your snowshoe week will be a high-alpine summit tour to one of the striking panoramic peaks in our Goldberg Group. Your personal snowshoe guide, an experienced national park ranger, will lead you safely to the summit of a peak above 2,500 meters and back down to the valley. With the Hilmersberg (2,673 m), the Mohar (2,605 m), and the Kluidhöhe (2,579 m), three mountain peaks await you in the vicinity of the alpine chalet, all of which are manageable even for beginners.

On this day, the mountain guide will lead you exclusively on a private tour; no other winter guests will be present. This allows the route and pace to be precisely tailored to your fitness level, and of course, there will be plenty of time for summit photos, conversation, exploring nature, and a traditional stop at a mountain hut afterward. Experience our mountain world authentically, intensely, and from a local's perspective.

Alternatively, the guide can also take you on a beautiful hike through the high alpine pastures in the upper Astental valley and the Astenmoos moorland, should the weather be truly bad or a summit tour seem too strenuous. This snowshoe tour, at an altitude of around 2,000 meters and with only gentle ascents, also offers an impressive mountain experience in a remote high valley and complete peace and seclusion amidst nature.
A mountain house to feel at home in, an entire house just for you!
Whether with family, friends, or a romantic getaway for two, our Goldbergleiten alpine chalet offers the perfect base for your snowshoeing holiday. In our former mountain farmhouse, built using sustainable solid wood construction, you'll experience an authentic winter holiday straight out of a fairytale.
Three cozy bedrooms with rustic-style natural wood furniture, each with a balcony and views of the 3,000-meter peaks of the Hohe Tauern mountain range, and the tranquility of our secluded location ensure relaxation and a restful sleep. Of course, there's high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the house and a smart TV with Netflix, an internet browser, and all the major streaming services.

Snowshoeing is not only a gentle, healthy winter sport, but also particularly sustainable and environmentally friendly. Our rangers strictly observe the wildlife protection zones in the national park, and we ask you to respect these areas as well when hiking alone in the mountains. This way, you can enjoy a virtually 100% carbon-neutral winter holiday with us.
